Day 1: Elevate Your Practice

Day One at the Pilates Summit offers two distinct pathways to elevate your Pilates expertise.

Option 1, led by Elizabeth Larkam at Club Pilates Steiner Ranch, is a six-hour deep dive into neuro-fascial plasticity. In this workshop, you'll explore multi-planar, multi-joint movements using innovative props—such as the rotator disc, Pilates Arc™, foam roller, and sitting box—to enhance motor cortex communication and integrate fresh, neuroscience-informed strategies into traditional Pilates techniques.

Alternatively, Option 2 with Marc Coronel at Club Pilates Allandale provides a five-hour interactive session focused on functional training using a suspension trainer. This workshop emphasizes foundational bodyweight movements, effective coaching strategies, and functional biomechanics, equipping you with the skills needed to lead dynamic, inclusive classes for clients of all levels. Together, these options offer a comprehensive toolkit designed to inspire and transform your teaching practice.

Day 1 Option 1:

Presenter: Elizabeth Larkam

Location: Club Pilates Steiner Ranch at 3810 N Quinlan Park Rd. Suite 150, Austin TX 78732

Time: 12pm – 6pm

Workshop Title: Enhance the Sagittal - Props for Neuro-Fascial Plasticity

Workshop Description: Use the rotator disc, Pilates Arc ™, foam roller, and sitting box to liberate you and your clients from habitual body-brain grooves.

This six hour workshop invigorates all aspects of your personal and professional practice. Learn, practice, then understand how to design and teach movement options that upgrade your skills. Immediately apply the material in classes and private sessions to delight and progress your clients.

Hour one explains how multi-joint movements in a variety of planes encourage communication between previously unconnected motor cortex neurons.  Build on this insight for ninety minutes, bringing rotator discs to the mat, Reformer, Chair, Ladder Barrel, BOSU and TRX. Learn to teach 'high novelty - low risk' movement in the transverse/rotational plane that is safe and delightful for clients of all abilities. Rotator discs infuse the sagittal orientation of JH Pilates vocabulary with spirals that are harmonious with human structure and function.

The next two hours celebrate the two-part Pilates Arc™, far surpassing Spine Corrector options. The body of the Pilates Arc, arranged with a convex side on the mat, is an asymmetrical platform challenging whole-body coordination in each plane and combined planes. Unique standing balance and shoulder girdle - arm challenges complement Pilates vocabulary with lateral translation and lateral flexion.

Hour five combines the foam roller with hand weights, creating movements appreciated by beginning clients and experienced clients who seek new challenges.

Place the Sitting Box outside the Reformer frame during hour six to discover coronal/frontal plane movement in quadruped and bridging. These sequences generate amazement, humility and humor as they require exploration of novel movement strategies.

Throughout the workshop every movement variation is guided with precise verbal cues, informed by compassionate light touch, and explained in a context of how recent neuroscience research illuminates motor behavior.

Day 1 Option 2:

Presenter: Marc Coronel

Location: Club Pilates Allandale at 5802 Burnet Rd. Austin, TX 78756

Time: 12pm – 5pm

Workshop Title: Functional Training Coach level 1: Suspension Trainer

Workshop Description: This level 1 intro to coaching skills, bodyweight training using a Suspension Trainer & guide to HOW TO LEAD A CLASS is an interactive workshop reviewing foundational movements, addressing specific strategies for improving movement efficiency and providing exercise techniques to help your clients achieve desired results. You will learn functional biomechanics, how to properly coach, and offer modifications to exercises using equipment like suspension trainers, and other functional training equipment found in Pilates facilities to meet your clients where they are.

You will learn to use language that is easy to understand by the client to create a learning environment that is safe, fun, and effective to develop a culture of retention. At the end of this comprehensive workshop, you will know how to implement exercises that feature proper, safe, and appropriately challenging progressions for clients of all fitness levels through an introduction to program design and four pre-programmed sessions.
