Option A:
The Weight of Words
Location: Club Pilates Steiner Ranch (MAP), 12 PM - 5 PM
Presenter: Anula Maiberg
In the Pilates word, "body inclusivity" is often discussed, but rarely practiced with confidence. Many instructors feel a sense of worry or hesitation when working with larger bodies—dancing around the word "fat," over-modifying unnecessarily, or feeling stuck. This 5-hour workshop is a deep dive into dismantling that awkwardness. We are moving away from the idea that abundant bodies need to be "fixed" or "hidden" and moving toward a practice where every body is centered and celebrated within the Classical repertoire.
What We’ll Explore:
* The Power of Language: Why what we say matters more than the props we use. We’ll have a candid dialogue about the word "fat"—is it a bad word? (Spoiler: No). We’ll learn how to replace "cringe" moments with neutral, empowering, and anatomically precise cueing.
* The Classical Lab (Mat & Reformer): We will review the Classical order and put it to the test. You might be surprised to find that the "Universal Reformer" was designed for exactly that—universal use. We’ll see that many exercises require far fewer modifications than we think when we lead with confidence.
* Scope of Practice & Goals: People don't (or shouldn't) come to Pilates just to lose weight. We’ll discuss how to pivot the "weight loss" conversation and redefine our ultimate goal for the student: autonomy, strength, and joy.
* Suitability vs. Bias: When is a student truly not ready for a group class? We’ll establish size-neutral, safety-based criteria to determine when a student needs privates and when they are ready to hang with the pack.
This is a collaborative dialogue designed to leave you feeling refreshed, excited, and capable. You’ll return to your studio with a new vocabulary, a refined eye for the Classical order, and the confidence to teach every body that walks through your door without the "weirdness."
